Russell Heinz is rescued by War when he was shot and barely hanging on to a cliff in Afghanistan. When Russell recovered from his wound, he returned to his army unit only to have two fellow soldiers die within feet of him. Again, the Red Horseman War comes to save Russell and in doing so, War is also saved.

War is book two in The Four Horsemen Series. In this well-written episode, Russell sought to escape his small hometown in Kansas rather than face possible homophobia. Even though the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell laws have changed, Russell remained in the closet around his comrades. Experiencing death first hand, Russell mind shuts down, causing him to be sent to a mental ward suffering from survivor’s guilt. War understands feeling guilty because he has centuries in that mindset. It takes divine intervention to prompt Russell and War to work towards letting go of the past along with closing the wounds.

T.A. Chase has created a fascinating romance derived from a fear-provoking religious theme. By illustrating the beauty of love, the purpose of War is featured as a necessity to redeem mortals from evil as well as preserving the balance between Heaven and Hell. War is an amazing plus exceedingly enjoyable realistic saga.
